How Much Do They Really Want It?

Last month, Bug went through the Toys R Us catalog circling many things that he wanted for Christmas. Among those things was the Little People Airplane. At first, I wasn't going to get it for him simply because I felt he was too old for it. But he kept saying he wanted it. When asked by others what he wanted for Christmas, it was the first thing he'd say.
But last week, I had myself wondering how badly he really did want it. I couldn't find on at Target. And, when I saw that they were sold out on-line at Target, Toys R Us, and Fisher Price's website, I started thinking that this wasn't going to be an easy thing to find.
I thought about just forgetting about it, but he seemed to really want it. I don't think it's a good thing to kids everything they ask for, but sometimes it seems that if there's something special (and it isn't too much of a big ticket item), there's nothing wrong with trying to fulfill that wish. And I didn't want to let my little guy down.
But I also didn't want to pay three times retail (the highest I've seen it at Amazon was nearly $70), so I turned to eBay, but each one slid out of my grasp at the last minute - and there were a lot to choose from!
As much as I hate to admit it, it was Wal-Mart that saved the day. The Tall One found one on the shelf. It's slightly dusty and the box isn't in perfect condition, as if it was forgotten in the stock room.
The whole incident has caused me to really think about where to draw the line when it comes to gift giving. This is Buggy's first year where he really wanted stuff. I don't want to disappoint him, yet I don't want to just get him everything he wants. We'll see how I did next week, I guess.
