Know Where You're At

Sometimes the stars align and the right stuff goes on sale at the grocery store. This week is was half gallons of milk for $1. So perfect, since we are headed out of town in a few days and wouldn't be able to go through a whole gallon before then. Also perfect because I wanted to buy some whole milk to see how Monkey liked it (not so much, thus far). I would have purchased a half gallon of that anyway, so I was glad to see that it was on sale. Between milk on sale and just pretty much having what I need on hand, I'm doing quite well on groceries. I think.
Really, I'm not quite sure. I've just made too many quick trips to the store (to pick up camping food, or birthday cake supplies) that I'm really not sure what it all adds up to. I find just knowing where I'm at in various budget categories can make all the difference. There's something magical to knowing how much I've already spent. The months where I check occasionally just go better moneywise. It never fails that if I just rely on my head to keep track, I totally forget something big.
So, today I will head to the grocery store to pick up some things for The Tall One to eat while the rest of us are gone. I will hopefully be able to enter some receipts before then and know where I'm at. Here's hoping that I'm right - that I really am doing well this month!
