Frugal Fireworks Display... For Us At Least

On Friday night, we enjoyed a large fireworks display from the comfort of our own roof. All over the city, people were shooting off some pretty impressive fireworks. They were all illegal, mind you, which is probably why they were so impressive. Lots and lots of money was, more or less, being lit on fire and launched into the air. Money, that the media would have us all believe, people supposedly don't have much of due to that looming recession and rising gas and food prices. So, during hard times do people go crazy and buy hundreds of dollars worth of fireworks or are things just not as bad as they appear? Or, did they just go out and spend money that they didn't have to begin with? I hate to admit it, but, considering many neighborhoods around me are low income areas, I tend to think that the later is the case.
I really shouldn't judge. Perhaps these people have more money than they appear to. Maybe they save up all year so they can splurge on fireworks. I don't know. I do know that we got a nice show and it didn't cost us a cent.
