The $8.98 Clothing Debate

While vacationing in San Diego, I shopped at a clothing store in the mall called Steve and Barry's. Currently, everything in the store was $8.98 or less. While I can't vouch for all their locations nor do I know how long that will last, there "thing" seems to be that they sell quality clothing for bargain prices. I picked up a pair of shorts and jeans from Sarah Jessica Parker's line, Bitten. There was lots of totally adorable stuff. My dad bought several things claiming that they'd be good for a few wears and then it's be time to donate them, but for that price, it's still a deal. My sister said she didn't see anything she liked, though she tends to be of the mindset that it can't be quality if it doesn't cost a lot, so I think she really didn't want to be caught dead in something that retailed for under $10. With two little boys, my clothes see their demise moreso due to spills and stains as opposed to the level of quality. Thus, I loved it that I could buy some great new clothes for that price.
What do you think? Does a low price ever turn you off? Do you automatically assume that price equates with quality?
