Because You all Really Care: Random Travel Tips

I was hoping to have a fun post full of frugal travel tips, but other than vacationing with your generous parents, I've got nothing.  I do have, however, some random travel tips that have come to my mind during the last week and a half

  • Ziplocs - I cannot sing their praises enough.  I wrote a post for Blissfully Domestic about how I use them for packing, but the uses for zippered sandwich bags while on vacation are pretty much endless.  Use them for an impromptu trash can or clothes hamper, or to protect your camera or cell phone from the elements (as in the sand at the beach or Shamu's splash at SeaWorld)
  • If you have little kids, consider renting your gear at your destination.  For less than you might think, you can rent a nice double stroller or an excersaucer to keep them busy during downtime.  It's also a fun way to try out some new stuff.
  • Sticker books like this and this rock when it comes to keeping kids busy in a car or airplane.
  • Pack a box of outlet covers to use at your destination if you have kids who like to play in electrical outlets.
  • Do a search for Redbox locations at your destination (Redbox allows you rent DVDs for $1 a night without any membership card).  Cheap entertainment for after the kids go to bed.
